Meet the Owner
Nicola Corcoran
Mind Over Matter isn’t just a gym; it’s a community with its own rhythm, standards, and identity. Nicola Corcoran’s role as owner is to protect that, strengthen it, and continue to build on what makes it different.
Her connection to the gym began long before ownership. She first walked through the doors as a member, later joining the team and gaining a deep understanding of the space from the inside out. In 2017, she stepped into ownership, playing a central role in its growth and development. In 2026, she became the sole owner, taking full responsibility for its direction while staying true to what people valued about it from the beginning.
As both a local business owner and a woman building within the fitness industry, Nicola has developed a reputation for doing things differently, focusing on long-term standards, real relationships, and creating spaces that genuinely support people. Living and working within the community she serves, her investment in the gym goes beyond the business itself; it’s about contributing to something that has a lasting, positive impact.
Nicola’s approach is grounded in something simple but often overlooked: people need to feel comfortable before anything else can happen. When that foundation is right, confidence builds, consistency follows, and real progress becomes sustainable. That principle shapes everything within the gym—from how members are introduced to training, to how the team supports them day to day.
A clear example of this is the group personal training programme. Designed as a structured, coached environment, it gives people a way to learn how to train properly while building confidence in the space. For many, it becomes the turning point; from feeling unsure to feeling capable, and eventually independent in their training.
While Nicola’s background spans swimming, running, boxing, CrossFit, powerlifting, and weight training, it’s her experience outside of sport that has most influenced how she leads. She spent 10 years working as a carer, an experience that shaped her understanding of people, patience, and the importance of meeting individuals where they are. That perspective continues to define the standard of care within the gym.
Today, her focus is on developing the business as a whole; investing in the space, building a strong and aligned team, and maintaining an environment that people want to be part of. Mind Over Matter is not built on one person alone, but on the collective of its staff, members, and the wider community around it. Nicola’s role is to guide that, support it, and ensure it continues to grow in the right direction.
At its core, the aim is simple: to create a place where people don’t just train, but feel they belong—and where that sense of belonging drives everything forward.
